| Housing Advice
Granton Information Centre provides advice and representation on a number of housing issues. We provide general advice to tenants who wish to confirm their legal status and advise them of the rights and responsibilities of both the landlord and tenant.
We also provide representation in court in cases regarding rent arrears and represented 337 times for rent arrears during 2003 2004. This work is increasing, with over 450 representations in the year from April 2004 February 2005.
Where court action is being taken for recovery of property for reasons other than rent arrears we can provide advice and will refer on to other organisations when appropriate.
We also ensure that you are receiving the right amount of Housing Benefit. This includes assistance to complete benefit application forms and providing representation at tribunals where disputes about entitlement to benefit cannot be resolved at a local level. If you wish to know how much rent you should be paying we will calculate this in order for you to keep up-to-date with payments while waiting for Housing Benefit to be processed.
