| Representation
Granton Information Centre can offer representation at Social Security Appeal Tribunals for Benefit Claims & at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for Rent Arrears.
Appeal Tribunals
If youre turned down for benefit you have the right of appeal. The decision can be reconsidered and ultimately may be heard by an independent appeal tribunal. In this instance GIC can attend the tribunal hearing with you as your representative. Ideally contact GIC as soon as you receive the decision turning you down for benefit to ensure you meet all the relevant deadlines / time limits and that GIC have maximum time available to prepare your case.
Rent Arrears If you have rent arrears with your landlord (e.g. City of Edinburgh Council, Housing Association or Private Landlord) Granton Information Centre (GIC) can negotiate with your landlord on your behalf, assist with any Housing Benefit issues that may be causing the arrears and, when necessary, represent in Sheriff Court on your behalf.
GIC undertakes to offer the best representation in court that we can provide. However we cannot guarantee that we will be successful in preventing a decree being granted and an eviction taking place.
It is always best to try to come to GIC as soon as you begin to experience difficulty paying your rent. GIC are only able to deal with cases if they have sufficient time to undertake and prepare them. If you receive a summons to attend court you should contact GIC as soon as possible. GIC cannot guarantee to take on cases at short notice.
The conditions under which we are able to offer this service will be explained to you when GIC agrees to undertake your case.
